South China University of Technology (SCUT)

Located in the vibrant city of Guangzhou, in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, South China University of Technology (SCUT) is a prestigious research university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education of China . It is a member of the national "Double First-Class," "Project 211," and "Project 985" initiatives, which designate institutions for top-tier support and development .

History and Heritage
SCUT's mission is rooted in the goal of revitalizing the nation through industrial development. Its history can be traced back to the Guangdong Provincial First-Class Industrial School, founded in 1918 . The university was officially established in 1952 as the South China Institute of Technology through the amalgamation of engineering departments from several prominent universities in central and southern China . It was one of the country's first four institutes of technology, often referred to as the renowned "Four Great Institutes of Technology," and was named a National Key University in 1960 . It adopted its current name, South China University of Technology, in 1988 .
The university's motto is "Study Extensively, Enquire Accurately; Discriminate Clearly, Practise Earnestly" (博学慎思明辨笃行) .
